A LESSON FROM BONHOEFFER’S TIME Too many of Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s contemporaries stood silent on the sidelines as evil proliferated throughout Nazi Germany. They disregarded his prophetic words and failed to bear witness to the truth. Instead of proclaiming the Gospel, they became “tasteless” salt; lights hidden under a basket. THE CHALLENGE FACING OUR LEADERS Today, Canadian church leaders face a similar challenge. Antisemitism is exploding across our streets and on our campuses. Jewish schools have been firebombed, and provocateurs have openly chanted for Israel’s destruction. LEARNING FROM HISTORY Unlike Bonhoeffer’s generation, we have the benefit of history to guide us. We have seen the consequences of inaction and silence in the face of hatred and violence.
